Some new frames arrived in the shop just in time for Father's Day. They are rustic and vintage looking, with a neat slot to record names, place and probably the year the photo was taken. The perfect thing for camp, especially as the phrase, 'My First Big Catch' is etched onto the front of the frame. But the display photograph that the manufacturer included was of a man with
his wife and children! He was smiling....as if he was pleased with his catch... but this is fishin' country! There's gotta be a fish in the picture! Now the truth is, Dal and I are not outdoorsy people. Fishin' country aside, we don't fish at all! We do have a boat - an old wooden one that hasn't been in the lake since our kids were teens. As I recall, they were quite embarrassed by our last outing....I think it was the noisy, 21/2 hp Seagull motor on the back of the 10 foot boat that really got to them. We had gone 'boating' with friends who got tired of waiting and circling back for us. Finally, they tossed us a line and towed us up the lake! But I do digress... I needed a photograph for the frame. A First Big Catch photograph... one that a REAL fisherman could relate to. I knew exactly where to look. I pulled out my family album. 'Fishing at Melville Beach'. I'm about 4 years old in the picture and yes, I am actually holding up a string of fish! Several fish, in fact! And I am looking mighty proud of my impressive catch! For me, however, the very best part of the photo is that I am standing next to my dad. No doubt about it....this picture is a keeper! So have a great day, all of you Dads! Do some fishing, take your kids, and don't forget the camera! Happy Father's Day!
